Get It In Your Mind #30: Talk To Strangers

While I am a social butterfly within my community, I sometimes overlook opportunities for connections in the publicly random sphere.  I have two people in my life who do not possess such impediments.  Whenever I am out with Kevin or Socorro they are so completely comfortable in their own skin that they routinely engage neighboring strangers in conversation.
On a recent Sunday at The Standard Beirgarten, Socorro and I met a Dutch couple from a small town in Holland.  Marathon runners and world travelers, we discussed favorite locales and the ritual of the Wedding Rehearsal Dinner, which Socorro identified was "a rehearsal for families being together at social  events."
Summer is perfect for dinning out, let someone else sweat it out in the kitchen, and Kevin, being the primary chef of the household, maintains carte blanche to switch it up.  One of our favorite points of gentrification (Can they hire at least on black waitstaff?  I know it's their prerogative, but damn!) is an Italian spot called SARAGHINA.  In typical fashion, Kevin strikes up a conversation with the folks in the table next to us and we discover that they are graduate students (Lia and Will) a TISCH studying interactive telecommunications.  Check below for a sample of Lia's work (Hi Lia!).  Stay tuned, I feel the wheels in my brain turning....
