Get it in Your Mind #17: Pot Calling The Kettle...

Okay, so in addition to making work and dealing effectively with set backs, artists also have a responsibility to remain open and non-judgmental.  I recently allowed prejudice to limit my perception of possibility, in fact exhibiting the same behavior that seek to curb in others.  And while I give myself complete permission to be fallibly human, I do recognize that the kind of acceptance I hope to inspire is is contingent upon my own participation in an open dialogue. So, I will strive to:
  1. Stay Positive
  2. Remain non-judgmental
  3. Do my best

Soul Clap: June 18th @ The Soul of Brooklyn Launch Party

Clapping is our first musical instrument. Even before we fully engage our vocal cords, mommies and daddies around the world coax simple rhythms out of 1 and 2 year olds. Clapping provides a simple space to become both performer and audience member simultaneously, without additional equipment.  I am looking forward to utilizing this intersection, in a tangible (interactive) way, during the Soul of Brooklyn Launch Party.

In addition to investigating examples of popular music containing clapping as a compositional element,  I have been inspired by the minimalist work of Steve Reich.  See below for a video of his seminal work, "Clapping Music"...
