Alicia Jo Rabbins has struck me once again with her sense of connectivity. For those of you who have been following my blog, you are aware of the performance work I am developing that uses the rivalry between Joe Fraizier and Muhammad Ali as an inspirational point of departure. Curated by Gabi Ngcobo and presented at Cabinet Magazine's exhibition/performance space, I am anticipating an arresting evening of performance, as I am already enjoying the process of research and putting my three-minute round together.
Anyway, Alicia suggested that I investigate the work of Gabrielle Calvocoressi and her recently published book Apocalyptic Swing. From the few items I have been able to glean from the internet, I think her work holds a connection on a number of levels. With examples of prose poetry (which I LOOOOVE!) to excerpts from candid interviews- I am pretty sure my 3 minutes will somehow be informed by her artistry.
