Toy Box-Identity Politics, the saga continues...

To be sure, much of my work is concerned with identity politics, race, and gender.  Unfortunately, I continue to be updated with controversial  material to investigate the disparity of cultural  representations.  The most recent culprit: Mattel. Check the following FB status update from my cousin Mariah  "...disgusted with the new barbie 'so-in-style' doll. was particularly appalled with the following statement: 'spend $50 or more on Barbie products and get the Barbie Bye Bye Bad Hair detangler kit for FREE!' as if little African American girls need any more hair criticism. shame on Mattel. it's even worse that the woman who designed them is an African American herself!"   After reading this I decided to initiate an internet search to see what else I might discover about the dolls.  I'm posting a variety of links to continue the dialogue...
