I am manifesting not only my success as an artist, but my ability to collect and share art as well. I recently attended a silent auction to benefit The Highline and peeped a piece that I would love to have in my collection future/currently imaginary collection. Artist Shay Kun has managed to take traditional idea of a landscape and inject it with a dynamism that is beguiling. I imagine that even living daily with this piece, there would be that overtly subtle element of surprise as the explosion simultaneously blends and asserts itself in the landscape.
These visions of a dystopic wilderness are delightfully unsettling, as valleys and waterfalls become sites of armed conflict, abandoned automobiles, incongruous sea animals, sport fighting rituals, and suicide.
