A letter to Teri Woods...

At the suggestion of my fellow resident, Deana Lawson, I am considering including physical copies of the novels that I use as source material for my sound compositions as a component of the performance. I hope I can convince Ms. Woods to get on board with this idea...

Greetings:

My name is Kenya (Robinson) and I am a visual artist currently based out of Manhattan. I am a resident of the the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Workspace program, and I'm hoping to expand my studio practice into the areas of sound and performance. I've been working on a sound-performance series called "Black Trash: The Modern Melodrama" in which I create rhythmic patterns by using Urban Fiction Novels as source material. By taking these passages out of context and filtering the phrases through a automated text to voice function, I believe layers of unintended meaning are revealed. The next performance of this series is swiftly approaching and I would like to push my expression to the next level. Please review the links below for a sampling of the work thus far, as I would like to include your novels as a conceptual and physical component going forward. Perhaps we can establish a dialogue for collaboration.

Please respond with your thoughts as soon as you have a moment.

Best,
Kenya (Robinson)
