...I actually have a portrait by the incomparable Jamel Shabazz! I remember this day, but I never thought I'd see the image. I may have to exercise my narcissistic tendencies and scavenge enough money to purchase a copy.
Dr. Deborah Willis just so happened to accept my Facebook Friend request, and as I was browsing her profile I was reminded of A Great Day In Brooklyn via an event flier image she had in her photo album- a pleasant surprise, to be sure.
On another note: I'll soon be reading Dr. Willis' recently published book, Posing Beauty:African American Images from the 1890s to the Present, as a worthwhile addition to my research on beauty. Check for a posting on that very soon...
